I present these sketchbooks in the raw, almost, because I think they offer an interesting glimpse into my father's creative process. I concede in advance, that not every image is a winner, but there are some incredible drawings within these pages. The nature of sketchbooks is that they are a testing ground for ideas. So I've been more lenient than in other categories by including more drawings David didn't sign because I think that in leafing through these pages the viewer will appreciate seeing his imagination at work and how ideas are formed, develop, page by page, over time - SL
