David began work on this large sculpture in Ossining before moving to Maine in 1971. At the time he still worked as an art director for the advertising firm Doyle Dane Bernbach in New York City. But the real fun began after work, after taking the 40 minute Metro North train from Grand Central, he would head to his 2nd floor studio, mix up a batch of plaster, and get to work on his latest creations. Here is a photo of him with the 'Lady' circa 1970.

I recall once when I was about 9, probably around the year 1970 and still living in Ossining, I was filling out some school forms and it asked for my father's occuptation. I started to write 'art director' but my father corrected me and told me to write 'sculptor' even though he was still employed by DDB. He clearly had already moved on from the ad business, and knew exactly what he wanted to do with the rest of his life

He brought the unfinished sculpture up to Maine when we moved to Penobscot in 1971, and completed it sometime in the mid 1970's. Here is another view of the finish work.
