Circumcision - Homage to Titian

In a letter to me dated January 6, 1998, my father wrote.

"What a deadly dreary day up here. I've been reworking a Titian circumcision - cut a bit more off this time, it's getting really nice & nutty. Also almost done with an Asylum Self Portrait."

This painting is based on Titian's painting 'The Circumcision of Christ' at the Yale University Art Gallery. You can see that work here - https://artgallery.yale.edu/collections/objects/359

The two drawings I included by David are clearly related to the painting, but I'm not sure they are studies done in the lead up to the painting or ideas put down later in response. I suspect the later because they are farther removed from Titian's original work than the painting is. What I find interesting is how different in style the two drawings are from one another, yet done roughly at the same time and inspired by the same work.
